Start with the items that should never enter the pile

Collect documents and keys first. Put medication and cash with the valuables. Review jewelry, photographs and small keepsakes separately. Check drawers and pockets. Look through books and containers, then inspect the backs of framed pictures before marking furniture for removal.

  • Identification and financial records
  • Keys for the house, vehicles, safes and mailbox
  • Medication and personal devices
  • Photographs and family papers

Create three clearly separated zones

Use a room, wall, or marked area for items to keep. Give undecided belongings their own location. The removal group should be physically separate so nobody has to interpret an unlabeled pile during loading.

  • Keep
  • Decide later
  • Approved for removal

Choose one person to answer item questions

A single authorized contact keeps the instructions consistent. Walk through every included room and closet. Check the garage, patio and each storage area before work begins. If ownership is disputed or unclear, leave the item out of the removal zone.

  • Confirm every room in scope
  • Mark furniture or boxes that stay
  • Keep private documents away from the work area
